UK media: Starmer and his delegation brought disposable phones to China to prevent espionage
The UK's The Times quoted sources as reporting that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his delegation to China will bring disposable phones and laptops as work equipment to prevent espionage.
On Tuesday, Starmer will embark on a visit to China. This is the first visit by a British leader to China since Theresa May's official visit in 2018.
According to the report: "Starmer and his entire team brought 'disposable' phones and laptops to China, aiming to prevent the host country from spying on them. The government delegation has received dozens of disposable devices."
The report stated that these new phones, disposable SIM cards, and laptops will be distributed to the Prime Minister himself, accompanying personnel, special advisors, the UK government policy team, and media staff. Sources said that the UK side will not bring any government equipment to China, due to concerns about Chinese espionage. The Times noted that Starmer and other officials were also advised not to bring any personal devices to prevent hacking attacks.
A UK government spokesperson told The Times that he believed the Prime Minister's phone was safe and added that "reliable security measures have been taken to ensure communication security."
