Reference News, August 16 report. According to Jiji Press, on August 16, in the context of 80 years since the end of World War II and the fading awareness of war, how do young people view war and peace? Jiji Press conducted a survey among 100 young people aged 15 to 25 in Shibuya, Tokyo. The results showed that only 61 people knew that August 15 is the "End of War Memorial Day," highlighting the fading awareness of war and peace among Japanese youth.

The above survey was conducted on August 1. All respondents had completed compulsory education, with an average age of 18.7 years. The survey used face-to-face distribution of questionnaires, with some questions requiring written answers.

The report stated that 26 people answered "don't know" what day August 15 is, 4 people answered incorrectly, and 9 people did not answer. Approximately 60% of respondents answered that August 6 and 9 are the "Atomic Bombing Days."

48 people could correctly answer how many years have passed since the end of World War II, while 40 people answered "don't know." Regarding the warring countries (multiple choices allowed), the most chosen was the United States, with 71 people; the number of people who chose the United Kingdom, Russia (including the Soviet Union), and China were all around 20; and 27 people answered "don't know."

Of those who knew about Japan's acts of aggression, 42 people mentioned events such as the "attack on Pearl Harbor," but the total number of those who answered "don't know" and did not answer reached 58.

About information on war and peace, 68 people said they would not actively seek it out. Reasons such as "no interest," "it makes me uncomfortable to read," and "the school assignment didn't require it" were prominent.

Regarding the question "Do you think the current time is peaceful?" 51 people gave a positive answer, while 46 gave a negative one.

Additionally, 83 people believed that Japan may participate in or be involved in a war in the future. Many responses expressed concern about the exercise of collective self-defense rights. (Translated by Liu Jieqiu)
