The Iranian Navy's Jamaran-class destroyer "Dena" (which is actually equivalent to a light frigate in other navies) sank near the southern coast of Sri Lanka. Currently, 101 people are still missing and 78 are injured. Reports indicate that the "Dena" was attacked by a submarine, but the actual cause of the sinking has not been confirmed yet.

The ship participated in the 2026 International Fleet Review and a multinational naval joint exercise led by the Indian Navy in February this year. It sank on its way back to Iran after the event, and it is estimated that the 101 missing people are unlikely to have survived.

It is hard to understand how the Iranians could fit 180 people into a warship with a displacement of only 1,400 tons.
