The United States cannot stand China's slight progress in the field of scientific and technological innovation, and is now making a big deal out of the "China AI threat."
On November 11 local time, former CIA agent J. Michael Waller appeared on a Fox News program to severely denigrate Chinese AI technology, using "values" and "civilization" to hype up the competition between China and the United States for a sense of urgency.
He claimed: "If we allow China to dominate in the AI field, we will lose everything."
J. Michael Waller currently serves as a senior strategic analyst at the U.S. far-right think tank "Center for Security Policy." According to his social media account, he often posts and forwards conspiracy theories and false information about China.
"China controls the physical elements needed for AI hardware," Waller said in this interview, "if they can dominate the global AI market and set global AI standards, we will eventually be working for China."
He continued to claim that this would have a profound impact on U.S. "national security."
"Imagine an AI system that tells us what we need to know, what we should think, how to think, and do the reasoning for us..." Waller said, "imagine what would happen if all of this were dominated by China."
Waller then fabricated an unfounded "China threat" scenario: China will dominate the global business, control anything related to AI, control AI "safeguards," and program how we perceive and think...
He claimed that once China leads the United States in the AI field, "we are on a very dangerous path; it is no longer a free market or Western values. It not only threatens our military but also our entire civilization."
Finally, Waller talked about the application of AI in the military field. He spread fear, saying that China will use "AI-driven strategies, AI-driven weapons, AI-driven drone swarms, and AI-driven autonomous machines used within our country" to fight against the United States.

In recent years, the U.S. government has continuously broadened the concept of national security, issued export control measures against China, politicized and weaponized trade, economic, and technological issues, abused export controls, and maliciously suppressed the development of Chinese AI technology.
In response, the Chinese side has clearly stated that such actions by the U.S. seriously undermine market rules and international trade and economic order, significantly affect the stability of the global supply chain, and severely damage the interests of businesses and industries in China, the United States, and other countries.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson previously pointed out that artificial intelligence is the common wealth of humanity and should not become "a game for the rich and the wealthy," creating a new "development gap." The U.S. is starting to create a "hierarchy" and "distinguish between close and distant" in the field of artificial intelligence to maintain its hegemony, and the fundamental purpose is to deprive developing countries, including China, of their right to technological advancement and development.
Recently, Charles Austin Jordan, a senior analyst for the China Project at the U.S. think tank Rhodium Group, told Hong Kong's South China Morning Post that the U.S. and Europe still hold an optimistic view of their leadership in cutting-edge technologies, but this confidence is becoming fragile.
"This sentiment will soon change," Jordan admitted, "even moderate progress by China, especially in AI or quantum computing, could quickly trigger serious anxiety in the U.S. and Europe."
