French media: Lithuania's imports resume, EU withdraws WTO complaint against China

The EU ended its dispute settlement procedure at the World Trade Organization (WTO) against China on Monday, December 01. The procedure, which was launched in 2022, involved trade restrictions imposed by China on Lithuanian products following tensions in diplomatic relations between China and Lithuania over the Taiwan issue.

According to a report by AFP, according to a document submitted on November 28 and distributed at the WTO on Monday, the EU stated that because "relevant trade has been restored," Brussels believes "there is no need to continue pursuing this complaint." However, the document emphasized that the EU will "continue to monitor the situation" and does not rule out re-filing the complaint if necessary.

The EU filed a lawsuit with the WTO in January 2022, claiming it had evidence of China's "unlawful trade practices," including "refusing to clear Lithuanian goods." China at the time rejected the allegations, calling them "unfounded."

The WTO Dispute Settlement Body then established an expert panel to handle the case. However, the EU later requested a suspension of the proceedings and formally withdrew the litigation process a few days ago.
