German media: "Tang Luo Doctrine": Trump's new foreign policy is highly aggressive
After the incident in Venezuela, Trump openly stated that the US will take further actions in its "backyard." This is a re-interpretation of the Monroe Doctrine, which was born more than 200 years ago, and marks a strategic upgrade.
After the surprise raid on Venezuela and the arrest of the Maduros, President Trump returned to Washington on Sunday, January 4th, from Florida. On the publicly released footage, people saw a confident Trump and some lawmakers who could not hide their excitement. German TV One commented, "A victory makes people hungrier."
Trump made no effort to conceal his stance and boldly stated in front of the camera, "Colombia is very sick, and the person ruling it is also a sick man. He likes producing cocaine and selling it to the United States." "Take military action against it?" A journalist asked, "That sounds great," Trump replied. He continued, saying that action must also be taken in Mexico because drug traffickers control the country, although he maintains respect for the female president.
It cannot be forgotten that Greenland in North America is also at stake. Trump explained that Russian ships freely roam there, and just for this reason, the US cannot stand by idly, as Denmark is helpless against such threats: "You know, Denmark has recently strengthened security in Greenland, investing in more dog sleds, yes, dog sleds. They think this decision is great."
Since the capture of Maduro, the Trump administration has become more explicit in declaring how the US will deploy in regions like Latin America in the future. During the transition of the Venezuelan government, the US will "run" the country until it rebuilds security and judicial order and follows the development path desired by Washington. All of this aims to restore American dominance in the Americas. This concept is clearly defined in the new U.S. National Security Strategy. The document states on page 15: "After years of neglect, the United States will restate and implement the Monroe Doctrine to restore its dominant position in the Western Hemisphere."
From the Monroe Doctrine to the Tang Luo Doctrine
The Monroe Doctrine originated over 200 years ago, named after then-president James Monroe. Its most fundamental principle is that the emerging power, the United States, views the Americas as its own sphere of influence, and does not allow old European colonial powers to interfere with the affairs of Latin America. Nowadays, under new circumstances, the media added Trump's name, calling the new American foreign policy "Tang Luo Doctrine" (Donroe-Doktrin), a term that Trump has already used, dreaming of a place in history. Moreover, the "Tang Luo Doctrine" means that the US will no longer allow sovereign countries in the Americas to independently decide with which countries and companies they develop relations and cooperate, not limited to European countries and enterprises.
In the section on the Western Hemisphere in the U.S. National Security Strategy, there is a sentence at the end: "We should do everything possible to expel foreign companies operating infrastructure projects in the region." This statement is interpreted as meaning that European and Asian construction companies operating in Latin America will become targets of the "Tang Luo Doctrine."
"The Western Hemisphere is where we live. We will not allow the Western Hemisphere to become a base for American adversaries, competitors, and opponents." This is the latest statement by U.S. Secretary of State Rubio on American foreign strategy.
