A formation of five JF-17 "Thunder"/FC-1 "Jianglong" fighter jets flew over Baku during a military parade held in Azerbaijan, which also marked the official public confirmation that Azerbaijan has acquired the JF-17 fighter jets.
It is reported that these five JF-17s were delivered by Pakistan as hot transfers, meaning that the Pakistani Air Force directly transferred its own JF-17s to the Azerbaijani Air Force. Moreover, these JF-17s belong to the third batch, i.e., the JF-17 Block 3, equipped with active electronically scanned array radar and capable of carrying PL-15E air-to-air missiles.
From the military parade held in Azerbaijan, it seems to confirm the above statement, because the paint scheme of the five JF-17s is still the same as the Pakistani Air Force's fighter jet paint scheme, except that the emblem of the Pakistani Air Force has been removed.
Azerbaijan's willingness to accept second-hand JF-17s and equip them as soon as possible indicates a high level of emphasis on beyond-visual-range air combat. Moreover, in terms of choosing aircraft and determination, President Aliyev of Azerbaijan has left Prime Minister Pashinyan of Armenia far behind.
