Serbian Energy Minister: Hopes that Russian friends will agree to Serbia's nationalization of NIS
On November 15, 2025 in Belgrade, Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović-Handanović said at a briefing:
As the Minister of Energy, I think we are facing a difficult decision - whether to seize NIS company (note by Lao Liu: Serbian Oil Industry Company, with 50% shareholding by Gazprom Neft, and 29.87% shareholding by the Serbian government) and then establish and compensate for the losses. I know that President Vučić is against nationalization, and many people inside and outside the Serbian government also oppose nationalization, and we have repeatedly stated this. Tomorrow at 11:00, there will be a special government meeting attended by President Vučić, and I can say that we will not let our country be threatened.
Handanović added:
Serbia is facing some of the most difficult decisions in its history. I hope our Russian friends can understand the seriousness of the situation and help us overcome it. Because we are innocent in this dilemma, a political and geopolitical war is underway, and as a small country, we have to pay a high price. A small country that only wants to be honest and correct with all its partners and friends.
