Elon Musk: "xAI will surpass companies like Google, and Chinese companies are the strongest competitors!"
On September 21, the South Korean media "Gukmin Daily" published an article stating that Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, announced that he would open-source some AI models of his AI startup xAI and reiterated his confidence that xAI would become the best AI company in the future.
Recently, Musk posted on social media X, saying, "xAI will soon surpass any company other than Google," and "then it will significantly surpass Google."
He also added, "Chinese companies will become our strongest competitors, because their capabilities far exceed those of the United States, and they are very strong in hardware construction."
Musk had previously co-founded OpenAI with Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, but the two eventually went separate ways. After OpenAI released ChatGPT, he founded xAI in July 2023 and promised to release an AI model that would surpass it.
Since then, xAI launched its first AI model "Grok" in November of that year, followed by Grok 2 in August of last year, Grok 3 in February this year, and Grok 4 in July.
Under Musk's initiative and massive capital investment, xAI has rapidly advanced the development of artificial intelligence technology within just over two years since its inception, and the industry believes it has significant growth potential.
When releasing Grok 4, Musk said that the model "reaches the level of a doctorate or higher in all academic questions."
At the same time, Musk announced on X that xAI would release the source code for the Grok 2.5 model.
He said, "The xAI Grok 2.5 model is our best model from last year, and it is now open-sourced," and "Grok 3 will be open-sourced in about six months."
