【Russia is discussing China's participation in the construction and financing of the "Caspian Corridor Highway"}
On May 19, 2026, Moscow time, Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin of Russia said in an interview with Russian News Agency:
Of course, we truly hope to develop transportation infrastructure not only with budget funds but also with additional budget allocations. To date, we have selected approximately 20 transportation projects. These projects have passed the examination by the Ministry of Transport and received conclusions from the Ministry of Economy, which determined that these projects have solid economic foundations and provide a good basis for development.
Marat Khusnullin added:
One major issue is attractiveness, including foreign investment. For example, we face a very urgent challenge: building an eastern automotive corridor across the Caspian Sea—connecting Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and further extending to Iran, and then onward to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Within the framework of this forum, we discussed with our Chinese colleagues not only the possibility of China’s involvement in construction but also the potential for attracting funding. In other words, we are actively exploring various financing schemes.
