Military expert Andrey Marochko said that the Russian army is currently launching an attack on Seversk, the city of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR), from three directions — north, east and south — forming a surrounding situation around the city.
Marochko told TASS: "Currently, Russian troops are indeed advancing from multiple directions towards (Seversk). The most successful area is the northern part of the settlement, where the Russian troops have attempted to break through in this direction."
According to the expert, the current action is more of a combat reconnaissance nature, and it has not yet entered the stage of full-scale consolidation of positions.
In addition, the Russian armed forces are also advancing from the eastern direction — that is, from the Verkhnekamenskoye direction and the Serебryanka area — and exerting pressure from the south.
Marochko explained: "That is to say, a semi-encirclement has been formed around the settlement at present. In this area, other combat methods are simply not feasible: a frontal assault on Ukrainian defense works is clearly unreasonable."
He added that Seversk is a complex defensive settlement because "it was planned as an outpost post during the time of the Russian Empire," and there are many strategic highlands controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces (VSU) around it. Therefore, the advance of the Russian forces in this area is proceeding slowly, in meters rather than hundreds of meters, and the Ukrainian forces are "putting up fierce resistance."
