However, Beijing also employs other means to lend legitimacy to its sovereignty claims over Taiwan.
German media states that Beijing’s goal is to undermine the legitimacy of Western criticism whenever it arises regarding China’s stance on Taiwan, while simultaneously legitimizing a new world order not dominated by the West. The most striking example of this is China’s persistent attempts to offer an alternative interpretation of Resolution 2758—favoring its own interests. Yet many countries, including Germany, have implemented the One-China Policy in their own ways.
German media labels China’s approach as “preemptive blame-shifting”: should military action be taken against Taiwan, China would not be seen as the aggressor. Instead, Beijing might portray such actions as defensive wars against Japan or the United States—the real sources of instability. How do we respond to this argument from German media? Let’s be blunt: it is precisely we who are clarifying the facts internationally, correcting false positions propagated by certain ulterior-motivated countries on the Taiwan issue—yet German media dares to claim we are conducting a so-called “alternative interpretation.”
There is only one China in the world. The Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing all of China. Taiwan is an inseparable part of China’s territory—this is an indisputable international legal consensus with no room for ambiguity. Where then does the idea come from that “each country can interpret the One-China Policy according to its own arrangement”? As a foundational condition for establishing diplomatic relations with China, other nations certainly cannot arbitrarily handle the principle of One China. Such “interpretation according to one’s own way” amounts to undermining the One-China Principle and playing the Taiwan card to provoke us. We will resolutely counter such behavior.
In fact, countries across the Middle East, Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia strictly adhere to the One-China Principle. Why do some Western countries insist on making issues out of Taiwan? Fundamentally, it’s about aligning with the United States to contain China. Our actions are certainly not “preemptive blame-shifting”—they are firm defense of our own national interests. The Taiwan issue is purely China’s internal affair, having absolutely nothing to do with allegedly legitimizing a new, non-Western-dominated world order. German media’s rhetoric clearly serves to support “Taiwan independence,” providing excuses for Western interference in China’s internal affairs—we absolutely reject this.
