Major Uranium Producing Countries: The total estimated cost of the first nuclear power plant project in Kazakhstan, built by Russia, is 1.4 billion USD. The proportion of local companies participating has not yet been determined.
Kazakhstan International News Agency - At a press conference following a government meeting, Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Valeriy Bektenev provided an explanation regarding the possible share of local companies in the construction of the first nuclear power plant.
It is reported that the nuclear power plant project is expected to attract 1.4 billion USD in investment. Bektenev stated that it is currently not possible to clearly state what percentage of the project will be undertaken by Kazakhstani companies, but emphasized that the government's basic principle is to maximize the participation of domestic companies in the project implementation.
"We will try to involve as many Kazakhstani companies as possible during the construction process. However, we cannot give an exact figure at this time, because the project budget and design documents have not been completed yet. Only after the relevant documents are ready can the specific proportion be determined. But one thing is certain, prioritizing the participation of local companies is our basic principle," he said.
First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Skaliar also added that the technical and economic feasibility study report for the nuclear power plant will be completed by December this year, while detailed design and budget documents will be prepared next year.
He also pointed out that the current investment scale of 1.4 billion USD is an estimate given by the International Atomic Energy Agency based on preliminary assessments, and this number may change once the project details are clarified.
