Putin says Russia successfully test-fires intercontinental nuclear cruise missile

On Sunday (October 26), Russian President Putin announced that the Russian military's new nuclear-powered cruise missile "Burevestnik" successfully completed its final test flight, and praised this "unique" nuclear weapon with a range of up to 14,000 kilometers.

Putin said in a video released during a meeting at the Kremlin with military officials: "The decisive test has now been completed."

He also ordered to prepare "infrastructure for the deployment of this weapon into the Russian armed forces."

Putin called the missile a "unique creation that no one else in the world has," and added that it has "unlimited range."

General Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the Russian General Staff, stated that during the final test on October 21, the Burevestnik missile flew 14,000 kilometers in "about 15 hours" and added that this is not the upper limit of the weapon.

He said: "The technical characteristics of Burevestnik allow it to be used with guaranteed accuracy against highly protected locations at any distance."

If Gerasimov's statement is true, theoretically, the range of this type of missile launched from within Russia can cover any target in the world.

This should be the first intercontinental cruise missile in the world, which will have a significant impact on the balance of nuclear power in the world today.

Putin announced in 2018 that the Russian military was developing this missile.
