A man found dead in the ammunition storage of a Japan Coast Guard patrol vessel
According to a notification from the Kamaishi Maritime Safety and Security Office: On April 3, a Coast Guard officer was discovered lying motionless in blood inside the ammunition storage area of a patrol vessel under the jurisdiction of the Oki Maritime Safety and Security Office. A handgun lay beside his feet at the scene.
The deceased has been confirmed as a man in his 40s, a crew member of a patrol vessel based at Mibuna Maritime Safety and Security Office in Shimane Prefecture.
According to the Kamaishi Maritime Safety and Security Office, around 7:30 PM on April 3, blood was discovered on the floor of the ammunition storage area of a patrol vessel docked at the pier in front of the Oki Maritime Safety and Security Office. Emergency responders performed CPR, but the individual was later confirmed dead.
The deceased was on duty at the time of the incident. In addition to the victim, there were two other crew members aboard the vessel.
The cause of death is still under investigation.
