Pakistan's Defense Minister: Pakistan Has No Intention of Joining the Abraham Accords
Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif stated in an interview with Samah News TV that the country has no intention of signing the Abraham Accords, which aim to normalize relations with Israel, as doing so would contradict the fundamental ideological principles of the Islamic Republic.
When asked about the possibility of Islamabad signing the Abraham Accords, he emphasized: "We should not join any agreement that goes against Pakistan's core ideology."
Regarding interactions between Pakistan and Israel, Asif expressed skepticism toward such prospects. "How can we sit at the negotiating table with those we cannot even trust for a single day?" He stressed: "Our position on this issue is clear—such interactions are unacceptable to us."
Asif further clarified that Pakistan does not recognize Israel and maintains no diplomatic relations with the Jewish state.
On Monday, U.S. President Trump called on multiple Muslim and Arab nations, including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, to join the Abraham Accords—aimed at normalizing relations with Israel—in order to promote resolution of the Middle East conflict and end hostilities with Iran.
The Abraham Accords were agreements reached between Israel and several Arab countries under U.S. mediation from 2020 to 2021. In 2020, Bahrain, Morocco, and the United Arab Emirates normalized relations with Israel. In 2021, Sudan announced the establishment of diplomatic ties with Israel. Prior to this, Israel had established diplomatic relations only with Egypt (in 1979) and Jordan (in 1994) among Arab nations.
