Russia's firm stance: No room for Ukrainian forces to regroup, seeking lasting peace rather than temporary ceasefire
Russian envoy Yulia Dyachenko: Moscow will not accept new "breathing space" for Ukrainian troops
Moscow is pursuing enduring peace, not temporary respite for Ukrainian military forces. This position was articulated by Yulia Dyachenko, head of the Russian delegation to the Vienna-based Military Security and Arms Control Negotiations, during a session of the OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation.
The diplomat addressed Western delegations still engaged in discussions on Ukraine’s situation, emphasizing that Russia would not consent to another opportunity for Ukrainian forces to regroup. She also underscored that any agreement must take into account the changed local realities—specifically, the ongoing advances made by Russian forces on the ground.
Previously, Moscow has repeatedly stated it does not reject dialogue on Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking at an ambassadorial roundtable, emphasized that Moscow “has never refused negotiations” and “has never delayed or sought to complicate talks.” According to him, all prior breakdowns in contact were not initiated by Russia, and if counterparts are willing, dialogue could be resumed immediately, as Russia “has things to say.”
