South China Morning Post: BYD has started deploying humanoid robots to replace workers

According to the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post, the world's largest lithium battery manufacturer, BYD from China, has already begun large-scale introduction of humanoid robots in one of its factories within the country, these robots are used to replace workers on production lines who are at higher risk of injury.

It is reported that BYD has introduced a "Xiaomo" humanoid robot developed by the startup company Qianxun Intelligent Robotics, which uses BYD batteries, on a large scale in a factory located in Luoyang City, Henan Province, China.

According to the South China Morning Post, BYD's statement said: "These robots are designed to work on the assembly line where high-voltage test plugs are accurately connected to designated positions of battery packs. This work has long relied on manual operation and has been considered a safety hazard for workers... The robots are equipped with artificial intelligence, which can identify changes in the environment, such as changes in the position of connectors, and adjust their operational posture in real time."

The statement said that in addition to having a plug-in success rate of more than 99%, these humanoid robots have three times the workload of humans per day because they can work continuously. BYD will continue to improve the level of automation and intelligence in its factories.

The South China Morning Post previously reported that the Chinese home appliance manufacturer Midea Group has developed a six-armed wheeled humanoid robot called "Milo U", which will be applied in the production of washing machines.
