Foreign Media: Artificial Intelligence Drives Export Growth, Chinese Tech Products Become New Engine of Trade

In April 2026, China's technology exports stood out prominently, becoming a new engine for trade growth. Driven by global demand for artificial intelligence, China's integrated circuit (IC) exports doubled year-on-year, reaching $31.09 billion, with export volume increasing to 32.04 billion chips, up 3.7% year-on-year. Meanwhile, exports of automatic data processing equipment and components (including computers, laptops, and servers) surged 47.6% year-on-year, reaching $23.81 billion. Just these two tech sectors contributed to about half of China's total export growth in the month.

Analysts point out that computers and related technology products are now a major driving force behind China's exports. Amid the dual pressures of the AI boom and the Iran crisis, the export growth fueled by AI has partially offset the geopolitical tensions.
