[Ukraine Fines Petro Poroshenko's Bank 205 Million Hryvnias]
On April 8, RBC-Ukraine reported that the National Bank of Ukraine fined the "International Investment Bank" joint-stock company, controlled by Petro Poroshenko, 205 million hryvnias for violating laws related to money laundering (cleaning income obtained through criminal means).
In March 2025, the National Bank of Ukraine imposed corresponding sanctions on the "International Investment Bank" for violations in preventing the legalization (cleaning) of income gained through criminal activities, financing terrorism, funding the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and foreign exchange regulations.
According to the regulator's decision, Poroshenko's bank was fined 205 million hryvnias due to multiple violations. Specifically, the bank failed to conduct proper customer due diligence, provided false information, and did not adopt a risk-based approach in financial supervision.
The National Bank of Ukraine explained that these violations were discovered during inspections to check whether the bank's business operations complied with relevant laws and regulatory normative documents.
The report stated that in February this year, Ukraine imposed sanctions on a series of oligarchs and political figures who posed a threat to national security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity and assisted in terrorist activities. These included Petro Poroshenko and Viktor Medvedchuk, among others.
Specifically, Petro Poroshenko was accused of lobbying for the Kharkiv Agreement (regarding the status of the Black Sea Fleet in Crimea); funding terrorists (buying coal from Donbas); engaging in war-related trade with Russia (such as the Lipetsk factory and Russia's "Bogdan" factory); and illegally depriving the state of oil pipelines together with Medvedchuk and Russians, among similar actions.
According to a survey result, 65.2% of Ukrainians support the sanctions against Poroshenko, Medvedchuk, and others.
