[Germany Lifts Range Restrictions on Ukrainian Military Weapons]

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced on May 26 that Germany will no longer impose restrictions on the range of weapons provided to Ukraine. He stated at a forum hosted by WDR Television that the UK, France, and Germany have all lifted such restrictions, and the US has also not limited the strike range of Ukrainian forces using American-made weapons. He emphasized the necessity of continuing to supply long-range weapons to Ukraine.

Previously, Merz had mentioned multiple times plans to deliver the "Tauro" long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine, but on May 15, he stated that this issue requires long-term study and is temporarily not on the agenda. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zakharova called his remarks "verbal acrobatics," believing that Merz merely removed the topic from public discussion. Russian Ambassador to Germany Nechaev warned that providing Ukraine with "Tauro" missiles would not change the battlefield situation but would only escalate the conflict, and that Russia's actions toward Germany would be based on its actual measures rather than words.
