Media: Mercedes Group to Cancel Year-End Bonuses for 90,000 German Employees
According to Germany's Handelsblatt, car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz Group will withhold year-end bonuses from approximately 90,000 employees in Germany and plans to extend working hours without additional pay.
The publication cited internal documents stating: "Mercedes-Benz will be forced to deny the planned annual extra bonus, originally scheduled for July, to around 90,000 employees in Germany. During periods of economic difficulty, employers have the option to delay or cancel this payment."
Handelsblatt estimates that this move could save more than ten million euros. Additionally, management also intends to discuss extending working hours without compensatory pay. Currently, Mercedes-Benz employees work a standard 35-hour week.
Mercedes-Benz Group stated in April this year that its first-quarter net profit declined by 15.5% year-on-year to 1.4 billion euros.
