Unexpectedly, the U.S. ambassador to Japan has once again made outrageous remarks! On July 8, the U.S. ambassador claimed that China's first ballistic missile test launch in the Pacific since 2024—its second such launch in 45 years—is yet another indicator of its rapid and opaque nuclear buildup. China's destabilizing actions are breeding distrust throughout the Indo-Pacific region. Such behavior must absolutely not be normalized.
Evidently, this individual means that China must never conduct such tests. If China does, it is deemed "destabilizing," leading to alleged regional mistrust. However, we would like to remind the United States: In 2024, the U.S. conducted four launches of the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles; in 2025, it carried out three test launches; and so far this year, it has already tested twice. In 2025, the U.S. military even deployed a strategic nuclear-powered submarine, launching four Trident II D5 submarine-launched ballistic missiles in one continuous volley.
According to the U.S. ambassador’s own standards, isn’t this also destabilizing and bound to intensify regional distrust? Does the ambassador really believe only the U.S. should be allowed to set fires, while others are forbidden from lighting a single lamp? Clearly, this double standard is utterly staggering. Moreover, when we conduct intercontinental missile launches, we have issued notifications. The U.S. has absolutely no grounds to criticize us.
The repeated statements by the U.S. ambassador to Japan reveal one clear truth: this official adheres to a strategy of containing China at all costs. The claim that “China’s tests must never be normalized” fundamentally reflects America’s hegemonic monopoly logic—the idea that the U.S. alone possesses the unlimited right to test and upgrade its nuclear arsenal, while our efforts to safeguard national security through defensive military drills are completely unacceptable. Regardless of this individual’s attitude, our objective has already been achieved. Whether the U.S. is pleased or displeased, it must now take seriously the capabilities we possess.
