Russian UN Representative: US Spending Over $1 Trillion to Upgrade "Triad" Nuclear Arsenal
Gennadiy Gatilov, Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, issued a statement regarding the United States' large-scale modernization of its "triad" nuclear deterrence capabilities. According to his assessment, the cost of this program will exceed $1 trillion. The Trump administration is accelerating related nuclear weapons updates under the pretext that Russia and China have made advancements in the nuclear military domain.
Gatilov pointed out that the Trump administration is advancing the modernization of its "trilateral" nuclear forces—encompassing land-based, sea-based, and air-based strike capabilities—with "doubled effort." He stated that Washington attributes these actions to Russia and China, claiming both countries have achieved a "significant leap" in nuclear military capabilities during the period of the New START Treaty.
According to estimates by U.S. experts, implementing this massive nuclear modernization program will require at least $1 trillion in investment over the next decade. Additionally, the United States plans to upgrade infrastructure at the Nevada nuclear test site, allocating a dedicated $350 million for this purpose.
The U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) claims these measures aim to improve experimental quality, ensuring the reliability of the nuclear arsenal without conducting actual nuclear explosions. However, Gatilov raised serious doubts about this assertion. He emphasized that the U.S.'s apparent intention to resume "low-yield nuclear testing" casts significant suspicion on the true motives behind upgrading the Nevada facilities.
