Russia and the United States to Build Bering Strait Tunnel: Russian Direct Investment Fund to Sign Design Agreement Between Russia and the U.S.
Kirill Dmitriev, President of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and Special Representative of the President of Russia on Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation, told Sputnik News during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum that the fund will sign a design agreement for the Bering Strait tunnel with an engineering company.
Dmitriev had previously proposed the possibility of building a tunnel connecting Russia and Alaska in October of last year. He said the tunnel crossing the Bering Strait could be completed in less than eight years and would showcase advanced technology. U.S. President Trump once described the idea as interesting.
Renowned American investor Jim Rogers told Sputnik News at the end of 2025 that the idea of constructing a tunnel between Russia and the United States was excellent and would benefit both countries, adding, "It would be great if we could travel easily between Russia and the U.S."
The 29th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum took place from June 3 to June 6.
