Cambodia denies responsibility for the landmine incident involving Thai soldiers!
The Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Agency strongly denied reports by Thai media claiming that Cambodia is responsible for the landmine incident that injured three Thai soldiers.
Several Thai media outlets quoted senior officials stating that three Thai soldiers were injured by a landmine in the Mom Bei area, coordinate WA 220 861 on July 16, 2025, and the media claimed these landmines were newly planted by Cambodian forces.
In a press release issued on July 18, the Cambodian side stated, "Cambodia is a country deeply affected by landmines and remnants of war, therefore, Cambodia strongly condemns and firmly opposes the use, production, and storage of landmines. We feel deep regret for every tragedy related to landmines, wherever it occurs and whoever is affected."
The statement emphasized that under the visionary leadership of former Prime Minister Hun Sen and current Prime Minister Hun Manet, Cambodia prioritizes peace and is committed to building a world without landmines, where future generations can live safely and with dignity.
"Cambodia is a state party to the Ottawa Convention and has consistently fulfilled its international obligations. Cambodia's high commitment and success in clearing anti-personnel mines and remnants of war have been widely recognized by other state parties."
Regarding the injured Thai soldiers, Cambodia reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and international standards: "Any conclusion or accusation regarding this incident must be based on clear investigations, verifiable evidence, and accurate information, not on speculation or baseless accusations."
"Cambodia remains fully committed to the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2000 regarding border cooperation with Thailand, and will transform the border into a region of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development."
Cambodia finally urged all parties not to make immature or baseless accusations, but to work together to investigate the incident while upholding the spirit of friendship, security, and mutual respect, 'Our common enemy is landmines.'
