During the APEC Summit in South Korea, Japanese Prime Minister Takayoshi Koga met with the representative of Taiwan, Lin Hsin-yi, and called for "Japan-Taiwan cooperation and exchange."

This is a very rare act. So far, since the normalization of Sino-Japanese relations, this is the first sitting Japanese prime minister to publicly meet with a political figure from Taiwan and make open provocative remarks against China.

Japanese economist Tsuruoka Takashi even defended the Japanese prime minister: "Taiwan has more than 70% of the global semiconductor manufacturing share. TSMC has been building semiconductor factories in Kumamoto Prefecture, which will be a 3 trillion yen project for Japan."

This is probably also the view of many Japanese politicians and people.
