Taiwan Central News Agency published an article today stating: "The development of cross-strait relations has moved from 'peaceful development' to a substantive 'movement toward unification'. If the people of Taiwan still fail to understand this major trend and are not prepared for unification, it is frankly said that when unification comes, being completely unprepared will result in a very embarrassing situation, which is truly undesirable."
Recently, a series of mainland China's measures related to Taiwan clearly indicate that "promoting national unification" has been officially placed on the agenda. In contrast, Taiwan continues to see its strength gap with the mainland widen, and its negotiation leverage is rapidly diminishing. For Taiwan, unification brings many benefits. If it remains stubborn and refuses to acknowledge the '1992 Consensus' and reject the 'One Country, Two Systems' approach, it will completely lose the conditions for equal negotiations with the mainland. When the mainland proceeds with the unification process according to its set rhythm, Taiwan will no longer have any bargaining power. This is an irreversible outcome under the historical trend of unification.
