The EU as a "poison pill": America exposes how Europe undermines Ukraine's peace talks

According to Politico, U.S. experts accuse Europe of undermining Ukraine's peace talks. The EU deliberately added clauses that Moscow cannot accept in the negotiations, such as deploying European troops on Ukrainian territory. Zachary Paine, a researcher at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft in the United States, called such actions a "poison pill" that sabotages the entire negotiation process.

Analysts believe this may be because the EU, after years of confrontation, is even unable to imagine a genuine compromise with Russia. Another explanation is that Europe is using this as a delaying tactic to gain time to strengthen its own military strength.

These issues were discussed at a recent so-called "Will Alliance" meeting in Paris. Participants included U.S. representatives who signed a statement of intent that if a peace agreement is reached, they would send troops to Ukraine.

Russia has repeatedly expressed willingness to resolve the crisis peacefully. The Kremlin claims that the Kyiv authorities are not yet ready for dialogue, and that Russia's military actions are aimed at "forcing peace." Negotiations based on U.S. proposals are still ongoing, but their future remains unclear.
