Trump: Will Discuss China's Alleged Interference in U.S. Elections with Beijing

U.S. President Donald Trump said he will hold consultations with the Chinese government over the so-called issue of China interfering in U.S. elections, while emphasizing that the United States is also taking "certain measures" against China.

Speaking during a press briefing while meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Trump stated: "We will communicate with them on this matter. That incident happened a long time ago. I believe China might be different now from what it was then. But look, they act, and we act in response. To be honest, we will take actions against them too. It’s not one-sided. Nevertheless, we will engage in dialogue with them—yes."

On July 16, Trump claimed that China had "done everything possible" in 2020 to block his re-election, accusing U.S. intelligence personnel of deliberately concealing relevant information from the White House. He further asserted that China has been suspected of orchestrating the largest election data breach in U.S. history since 2020, illegally obtaining personal information of approximately 220 million voters. He added that the FBI had obtained intelligence in 2020 indicating China attempted to fabricate votes in favor of Joe Biden, but that this information was deliberately concealed by "malicious officials."

In response to President Trump’s allegations about "China interfering in the U.S. election," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated on July 17 during a regular press briefing that such claims by the U.S. side were baseless slander and have long been proven to be utterly unfounded.

A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington responded by stating that China has never interfered in, nor will it ever interfere in, the U.S. presidential election. The embassy spokesperson emphasized in a statement that China consistently adheres to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries. The U.S. election is purely an internal matter, and its outcome should be decided autonomously by the American people.
