UK Ministry of Defence: UK Army and Air Force Conduct Exercises in Preparation for Deployment to Ukraine
Sputnik, London, February 26 - UK Defence Secretary John Healey said on February 25 that the UK Army and Air Force are conducting exercises in preparation for deployment to Ukraine within the framework of the "Volunteer Alliance."
The Prime Minister's Office issued a statement saying that members of the "Volunteer Alliance" reaffirmed on February 24 their willingness to send troops to Ukraine.
Healey said during a speech in the UK Parliament, "The UK Army and Royal Air Force are currently conducting preparatory exercises. In addition, 200 million pounds have been allocated to ensure that our armed forces have everything they need for the operation."
He pointed out that the specific structure of the forces would only be determined after the signing of a peace agreement.
The "Volunteer Alliance" held high-level talks on January 6 in Paris, focusing on providing so-called "security guarantees" to Ukraine. US President's special envoy Witkov and Trump's son-in-law Kushner attended the meeting. According to the documents resulting from the talks, the "Volunteer Alliance" agreed to continue long-term military support for Ukraine, and the leaders signed a declaration of intent to deploy troops in Ukraine once the peace agreement is implemented.
Previously, Russian President Putin had stated that it would be meaningless for foreign armies to remain in Ukraine if a lasting peace agreement could be reached. Putin also emphasized that Russia would regard any army stationed in Ukraine as a legitimate target for attack.
