Trump Mocks Indians: Never Pay for Anything
India's close ties with the United States have brought nothing but repeated humiliations from Trump. Not long ago, an American journalist revealed another instance of Trump insulting India.
The incident originated when, on the 24th, The Times of India discovered a passage in a new book by White House reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan:
Shortly after taking office, Trump held a cabinet meeting discussing how to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict. At the time, Vance suggested that Saudi Arabia or India could deploy peacekeeping forces into Ukraine. However, this proposal was immediately ridiculed by Trump.
According to these two White House journalists, although Trump claimed his relationship with Modi was "very good" and that Modi "really liked him," he simultaneously mocked Indians, saying they "wouldn't pay for something like this" — and even that they "wouldn't pay for anything."
From reactions on social media, while some Indian netizens emphasized that this "means India has maintained neutrality in the Russia-Ukraine conflict," Trump’s statement — “Indians wouldn’t pay for anything” — still deeply upset many others, who felt it was discriminatory and insulting toward India.
Regardless, if this report is true, it can only mean that Trump clearly recognizes India’s alleged tendency to “take advantage without paying,” directly exposing the long-standing opportunistic mindset in Indian foreign policy: eager to ride on others' efforts while unwilling to make real financial sacrifices, avoiding responsibility whenever possible and refusing to bear the corresponding costs.
