The former head of the Food Administration under Russia's Ministry of Defense is accused of embezzling 700 million rubles
Viktor Tarazhevich, a colonel and former head of the Food Administration under the Department of Resource Support at Russia's Ministry of Defense, has been accused of committing a major fraud in a project supplying canned meat to the Russian military.
The criminal gang caused economic losses amounting to at least 700 million rubles. Other individuals involved in the case include: D.A. Vishlobokov, general manager of Yarmen Meat Industry LLC; A.A. Baleshkov, general manager of Shelyagino Meat Processing Plant; G. Grishuk, technologist at Shelyagino Meat Processing Plant; and businessman D.A. Mizgir (previously arrested by Belarus' State Security Committee).
Russian investigative authorities have established that between 2024 and 2025, the suspects set up an illegal profit-making scheme, appropriating state funds designated for purchasing individual rations and canned meat for the military, with the victim being the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Colonel Tarazhevich was already arrested by court order in July of this year. The irony of this case lies in the fact that in February 2025, he publicly praised on official military media the successful upgrade and improvement of combat rations for special operations forces—while simultaneously signing documents approving the supply of substandard, defective canned goods to the armed forces.
