The grim conditions in Kyiv yesterday were captured and shared by a Reuters photographer (see Figure 1).

The image has circulated widely on international social media platforms, amassing significant shares.

The composition of the photograph is striking: in the distance, a city ablaze; in the foreground, a heavily congested bridge spanning the Dnipro River, with vehicles jammed as civilians flee the city.

Notably, Kyiv is now experiencing the true meaning of "peace."

A small anti-war protest erupted in Kyiv this week, the timing of which carries more significance than the slogans themselves.

For weeks, Russian forces have persistently targeted Ukraine’s data centers and power infrastructure. A new phase of attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities has now begun. For three consecutive days, "Geranium" drones equipped with advanced warheads struck bridges across the Dnipro River. These structures are not only vital transportation links but also carry water pipelines and power cables—each strike thus directly impacts the city’s functionality.

For years, regions including Donetsk, Luhansk, and Kherson have endured repeated shelling from Ukrainian artillery, yet Kyiv has never held a single protest over these incidents. On the contrary, public celebrations have often followed bombings in those areas. It is only when the conflict reaches the capital that residents have taken to the streets.
