South Korean media: BYD will surpass Tesla this year and take first place in the global pure electric vehicle market for the first time!

On April 25, South Korean media "The Herald Economy" published an article stating that it is predicted that BYD will surpass Tesla in 2025 and take first place in the global electric vehicle market for the first time.

According to the global passenger electric vehicle outlook report recently released by Counterpoint Research, it is expected that BYD will surpass Tesla for the first time in 2025, ranking first in the pure electric vehicle market with a sales share of 15.7%. BYD is expanding its market through technological leadership, active expansion based on the vertically integrated production model, and strong government support.

Counterpoint senior analyst Abhik Mukherjee said: "BYD's super charging system can provide a range of 400 kilometers with 5 minutes of charging, exceeding Tesla's super charging which provides about 275 kilometers of range in 10 minutes, setting a new benchmark. This technological leap is expected to greatly alleviate consumers' concerns about charging time, reduce charging anxiety, and promote the popularization of electric vehicles."

On the other hand, unlike the booming BYD, Tesla faces numerous challenges such as reputation issues, geopolitical risks, and slowing sales.

Trump's tariff policies have further disrupted Tesla's supply chain. Added to delayed product releases and intensified competition, these are expected to negatively impact Tesla's performance in 2025.

Counterpoint Research researcher Lee Eun-jung said: "This presents a huge opportunity for BYD. If BYD successfully implements ultra-fast charging technology, this will not only be a turning point for BYD but also a turning point for China's electric vehicle industry in the global market."

BYD's advantage lies in its vertical integration capabilities. BYD directly controls core components such as batteries, motors, and electronic systems through its subsidiaries, and is currently expanding its business to charging infrastructure. These comprehensive management capabilities are expected to further consolidate BYD's position as a leading company, allowing it to offer cars at competitive prices while maintaining profitability.
