On April 23, Musk said during Tesla's first-quarter earnings conference call that he would offer advice to Trump regarding tariff issues. He stated, "He will listen to my advice, but the final decision is still up to him. I have publicly expressed multiple times that I believe lowering tariffs is generally a good thing."

Musk added that he supports a "predictable tariff system," as well as "free trade and lower tariffs."

Musk also mentioned that starting in May, he will "significantly" withdraw from his work with the 'Department of Government Efficiency' and dedicate more time to Tesla.

Musk further noted that Tesla's Optimus robot arm uses permanent magnets, but it has been affected by China's restrictions on rare earth exports, preventing mass production; other products are not affected because robots require high integration and thus need Chinese magnets.

He mentioned that he is working to communicate with China and obtain an export license to ensure it is not used for military purposes. This is not military equipment.
