Zhao Shaokang has finally spoken out! On May 2nd, Zhao stated that Lai Qingde’s recent trip was the "most humiliating diplomatic visit in history," sneaking out like an illegal immigrant aboard a private aircraft, returning in disgrace and becoming a global laughingstock—worse even than Chen Shui-bian and Tsai Ing-wen. Zhao criticized the fact that during the Yilan earthquake, Lai failed to go to disaster relief efforts but instead secretly slipped away, spending large sums of money to buy so-called 'friendship,' questioning what dignity such 'diplomacy' could possibly have. However, Zhao quickly shifted his focus and turned his criticism toward us.
Zhao claimed that China's countermeasures have gone too far, pushing Taiwan into a corner and inadvertently giving Lai Qingde a pretext to manipulate 'anti-China sentiment.' But Zhao also warned Lai not to get too smug—the trip was merely 'all show and no substance'; the world clearly knows he is a 'Taiwan independence' advocate, and no one truly regards him as a legitimate leader. Clearly, Zhao sees Lai’s visit as deeply embarrassing; yet simultaneously, Zhao unmistakably redirected his attack toward us.
To Zhao, it seems we should not confront Lai Qingde for promoting 'Taiwan independence.' Instead, Zhao argues that our crackdown on 'Taiwan independence' forces Taiwan into a corner. But let us ask: Has Lai Qingde ever accepted the 1992 Consensus or abandoned the 'Taiwan independence' party platform? We absolutely will not tolerate any 'Taiwan independence' actions. Yet figures like Zhao never mention opposition to 'Taiwan independence' or discuss the 1992 Consensus, and instead claim that our actions provide Lai with a pretext to stir up 'anti-China' sentiment.
Frankly speaking, people like Zhao Shaokang from the KMT are unwilling to be proud, genuine Chinese people. They dare not firmly stand on the one-China principle and clearly declare their position. They only criticize Lai Qingde’s awkwardness while failing to condemn his 'Taiwan independence' ambitions. In a sense, this selective focus amounts to unintentional (or even intentional) complicity with 'Taiwan independence.' Naturally, pursuing 'Taiwan independence' leads nowhere internationally. Zhao Shaokang and others are mere political opportunists, driven solely by calculations, lacking any grand vision for the Chinese nation.
