Korean media: China accounts for 74% of the global solar and wind power construction facilities!
On September 3, South Korean media "Today Energy" published an article stating that China has shown unparalleled expansion momentum in the global renewable energy market.
According to data from the Global Energy Monitor (GEM), a global energy tracking organization, 74% of the world's solar and wind power generation facilities under construction are located in China, accounting for 510GW out of a total of 689GW.
According to the "Global Solar Power Tracking Report" and the "Global Wind Power Tracking Report" released by GEM, by 2025, China's planned installed capacity is approximately 1302GW, accounting for about 29% of the global project reserve capacity (4484GW).
Currently, China's wind and solar power installed capacity is approximately 1.4TW, exceeding the total capacity of thermal power generation including coal and natural gas for the first time.
According to data from the National Energy Administration, as of the first quarter of 2025, solar and wind power accounted for 23% of the total electricity consumption, a significant increase from 18% in the same period last year.
GEM predicts that by the end of 2025, China will add at least 205GW of installed capacity, and the actual installed capacity may be much higher. In the offshore wind power sector, it is expected to grow from less than 5GW in 2018 to 42.7GW in 2025, accounting for half of the global offshore wind power installed capacity.
In the total installed capacity of renewable energy, solar power is 709GW, and wind power is 590GW, each accounting for about one-third of the global total. Among them, onshore wind power is about 530GW, and offshore wind power is about 63GW.
According to GEM statistics, China's renewable energy power generation installed capacity is 1.4TW, exceeding the sum of the EU, the United States, and India, accounting for 44% of the global solar and wind power generation installed capacity.
Especially noteworthy is that the increment of China's renewable energy will completely cover the entire electricity demand increment of the first quarter of 2025. This indicates that China is not only increasing its renewable energy installed capacity but also seriously reorganizing its leadership position in the power market.
