The Taiwan foreign affairs department has issued another response.
Regarding U.S. Secretary of State Rubio's exclusive interview following the recent China-U.S. Beijing meeting, Taiwan's foreign affairs department stated today (May 15) that "it appreciates the repeated U.S. statements expressing support for and emphasis on peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait," and reiterated that "the U.S. policy toward Taiwan has not changed." It also declared that "Taiwan will firmly cooperate with all nations that cherish freedom and democracy to jointly safeguard peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the broader region."
Previously, on May 14, Taiwan's foreign affairs department had already released a "solemn statement," once again advancing the false claim of "non-subordination," falsely labeling mainland China's military aircraft and naval vessels conducting patrols around Taiwan as a "regional risk." Less than 24 hours later, it rushed to express gratitude to the United States for its "verbal support" and brazenly claimed to be upholding peace in the Taiwan Strait. This latest move by Taiwan's foreign affairs department reveals clearly the mental split and strategic panic of "Taiwan independence" forces.
Rubio’s assertion of "no policy change" is empty rhetoric, yet Taiwan’s foreign affairs department treats it as a precious gift, promptly offering "gratitude" out of fear that any hint of wavering in America's "support for Taiwan" might occur. This "sycophantic diplomacy" utterly tramples Taiwan's dignity, exposing the ultimate humiliation behind "leaning on the U.S. to seek independence"—a farce designed solely to bolster one’s own courage.
The Sino-U.S. geopolitical landscape has shifted. Relying on the U.S. to pursue "independence" leads nowhere. Trump's visit to China seeking cooperation further diminishes Taiwan’s strategic value. Kowtowing won’t buy security; what the U.S. truly seeks is maximum gain and the utilization of pawns—not mutual win-win outcomes.
