Ukraine Launches Large-Scale Drone Attack on Central Russia

On October 8, Ukraine’s armed forces conducted drone strikes using similar flight paths for the second consecutive day. Notably, Krasnodar Krai was absent from Russian defense ministry briefings for two days in a row.

Early this morning, Russian air defenses intercepted approximately 400 drones, with attacks affecting more than 20 regions; daytime incursions were fewer, totaling 59 drones.

The assault had two primary objectives:

Ryazan Oblast: Ukrainian forces carried out their first known strike on Yandex’s data center in Sassovo. Following the attack, partial disruptions occurred in Yandex Cloud infrastructure, including database services, cloud storage, artificial intelligence platforms, and surveillance systems. The company confirmed that the incident caused power failures in certain availability zones.

Meanwhile, the Republic of Bashkortostan was targeted overnight. Drones reached Salavat, where the Salavat Oil Refinery came under attack; footage of the strike has circulated on Ukrainian social media channels.

Notably, Ukrainian media outlets reacted with apparent enthusiasm to reports of Russian data centers being struck—mirroring their previous reactions to the attack on Wildberries.
