G7: Trump to Meet with Zelenskyy and Dine with Macron at Versailles Palace
A senior U.S. official said on Saturday that Trump and Zelenskyy will attend the same working session during the G7 summit in France on Tuesday, followed by a dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron at Versailles Palace the next day.
The Elysée Palace stated that the welcoming dinner for Trump will take place after the summit held from Monday to Wednesday in Évian-les-Bains, France, aiming to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence. The event will be held at the Palace of Versailles, where the Treaty of Paris was signed in 1783—marking the end of the American Revolutionary War, formally recognizing U.S. independence, and symbolizing the enduring friendship between the United States and France.
After arriving in the Évian spa resort on Monday, Trump will hold a bilateral meeting with the French president. He will also have one-on-one meetings with leaders from Qatar, the UAE, Egypt, and India on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.
A senior U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said it is "highly likely" that Trump and Zelenskyy will cross paths during the working session on Tuesday. The official described Trump as the "only" international leader capable of ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
Negotiations regarding the U.S.-Iran agreement are accelerating and are expected to be a central topic at the Évian G7 summit, where the U.S. president will meet with three regional leaders.
According to the aforementioned U.S. official, France and the UK's potential participation in mine-clearing operations in the Strait of Hormuz could become a discussion point.
Moreover, U.S. officials have deliberately downplayed tensions stemming from Trump’s allies over America’s level of involvement in NATO, with several NATO leaders attending the meeting in France.
U.S. officials stated: "This will be a very relaxed dialogue. It has nothing to do with the hysterical atmosphere portrayed by the media. We are very satisfied with the current efforts toward shared responsibility and hope to see more such initiatives."
Another U.S. official praised France’s decision to include trade imbalances on the summit agenda as "very wise" and "spot-on." Trade imbalance is a key issue for Trump, whose global protectionist push has even strained relations with G7 allies.
According to the White House, the U.S. president also plans to discuss artificial intelligence, immigration, innovation, and energy with partners.
