Foreign Media: From Beijing to Berlin — Chinese EVs Make Their Mark at the Beijing Auto Show, Targeting the European Market

At the recently concluded Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, mainstream Chinese new energy vehicle manufacturers such as BYD, Geely, XPeng, and Chery made a collective appearance, inviting numerous overseas guests to the event and actively launching initiatives aimed at capturing the European market. Geely Automobile specifically invited around 250 foreign media professionals, clients, and social media influencers to attend, with approximately 50 hailing from Europe. Brands like XPeng and Chery also brought hundreds or even thousands of overseas visitors, among whom Europeans constituted a significant proportion.

Erik Böhm, a freelance automotive consultant from Germany, said after his first visit to the Beijing Auto Show: "I believe more Chinese brands will enter the European market and succeed in the future." This assessment aligns with current industry trends — under the ongoing domestic price wars that continue to compress profit margins, Chinese automakers are accelerating their expansion into overseas markets, with Europe emerging as a key target for achieving higher profit potential.

Dan Hersh, Co-Lead of Global Automotive & Industrial Practice at consulting firm AlixPartners, pointed out that compared to the United States, Europe has shown a more open attitude toward Chinese vehicles, with relatively lower trade barriers. This is one of the main reasons why Chinese automakers have prioritized Europe as their primary market for expansion.
