Ukrainian law enforcement authorities have uncovered a major corruption case involving Ukraine's natural gas extraction company, causing losses exceeding 295 million hryvnias to the state.
According to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the Economic Security Service, the suspects purchased materials needed for natural gas extraction at market prices, then artificially inflated the prices by 2–3 times through a series of "shell companies," ultimately selling them to state-owned enterprises at the highest possible bid via public tenders.
Currently, the head of a private firm and an official responsible for procurement at UkrGasExtraction Company have been reported as suspected of criminal activity. They face charges of large-scale embezzlement and wasteful disposal of state assets, with relevant authorities determining the compulsory measures to be taken against them.
