Mexican President Responds to U.S. Plan for Actions Within Mexico
Mexico does not agree with the U.S. military conducting operations within its territory. This was stated by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum during a press conference.
The head of state said: "[U.S. intervention] will not happen — there are no signs indicating that this could happen. In addition, we do not agree with this approach and have conveyed this position to [U.S. President Donald] Trump."
Sheinbaum added that during a phone call with Trump, the White House official expressed willingness to provide support in combating crime. However, the president emphasized that she has always rejected such proposals and reiterated that Mexico is an independent sovereign country.
Previously, on the previous day, NBC News reported that the Trump administration had begun planning a mission to combat drug cartels in Mexico. According to its sources, the operation planned to deploy U.S. military forces and intelligence personnel into Mexico.
