Kazakhstan's First Nuclear Power Plant to Be Built by Russia: Kazakhstan Atomic Energy Agency Signs Nuclear Power Plant Construction Roadmap with Rosatom

(Report by Kazakh International News Agency) During the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Kazakh Atomic Energy Agency Director Almas Adam Sattaraliyev and Rosatom General Manager Alexei Likhachev held talks to discuss relevant matters regarding the construction of a nuclear power plant project in Kazakhstan.

At the meeting, both parties approved an indicative roadmap covering the project preparation and implementation phases. The document includes conducting engineering surveys, signing EPC contracts, and preparing project documents. Additionally, "Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plant" LLC (KAES) and "Atomstroyexport" JSC, an engineering company under Rosatom, signed a framework agreement to clarify the basic principles of project cooperation in the Jiangbulak area of Almaty Province.

This strategic project is being advanced within the framework of international cooperation for the peaceful use of atomic energy, aiming to ensure Kazakhstan's energy security and achieve the national economic decarbonization strategy. Both sides emphasized the strategic importance of the project for Kazakhstan and the necessity to accelerate its implementation.

Likhachev said: "We thank the Kazakh side for entrusting us with the leadership of the international consortium to build the nuclear power plant. Kazakhstan is a reliable historical partner in our nuclear energy sector. We believe that Russia's nuclear technology, which has been proven for safety and efficiency, will serve the people of Kazakhstan and enhance the country's energy sovereignty."

Sattaraliyev pointed out that building a nuclear power plant is one of Kazakhstan's comprehensive strategies to promote energy sustainability. He emphasized that Kazakhstan expects to carry out close and transparent cooperation with partners to ensure high levels of safety and local production.
