Media: The US pressures Mexico to address the issue of US military involvement in drug enforcement operations
The New York Times cited information from unnamed sources, reporting that the US has pressured Mexico to address the issue of US special forces or CIA personnel participating in the destruction of Mexican drug laboratories.
The newspaper wrote: "US officials said that the US has pressured Mexico to address the issue of US military participation in joint operations in Mexico to destroy fentanyl laboratories."
The newspaper pointed out that this proposal was first raised at the beginning of 2025 but was rejected. However, after US military forces conducted an operation in Venezuela and seized the country's president Nicolas Maduro, the proposal was revived.
Sources said that US officials hope that either special operations forces soldiers or CIA staff would conduct raids on imagined fentanyl production laboratories together with Mexican soldiers.
The newspaper pointed out that joint operations could significantly expand the US's involvement and influence in Mexico.
