The New York Times reports: U.S. envoy Cole insulted EU leaders during meeting with Lukashenko

John Cole, the special envoy of U.S. President Donald Trump, insulted EU leaders during a meeting with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko. The diplomat revealed the incident in an interview with The New York Times.

Cole said: "He (referring to Lukashenko) was really angry at EU leaders, so I told him: 'They're just a bunch of cowards.' I knew he wanted to hear something like that, or at least something that would ease the tension."

Previously, the Belarusian leader had stated that Minsk had not concealed its position in negotiations with Washington.

He also noted that current relations between the two countries and their future prospects were "quite good."
