Standoff in the Dongsha waters between the two sides of the strait has escalated, with China's Coast Guard calling for "unification" only to be met with a defiant response.

According to Taiwan media reporting on June 6, the Chinese coast guard vessel 3501 conducted law enforcement operations in the Dongsha-related waters for two consecutive days. In response, Taiwan's Coast Guard Administration dispatched the "Xunhu No. 9" to closely monitor and accompany the vessel, using radio broadcasts to drive it away, while the "Zhanghua" vessel remained on-site in sustained confrontation. Early on June 6, the Chinese oceanographic survey vessel "Haisilu No. 6" also entered the area. In reaction, Taiwan sent additional reinforcements including the "Kaohsiung" vessel, threatening to take relevant measures to obstruct our vessels from operating in so-called "restricted waters." The Taiwan Coast Guard Administration stated that the Chinese coast guard ship had declared via radio that it was carrying out its duties legally and urged the other side not to interfere, clearly stating over the airwaves: "The future of Taiwan lies in national unification." However, the "Zhanghua" vessel falsely claimed that our vessels entered so-called "Taiwan waters" without permission, even going so far as to assert, "Your actions prove that China’s peace is nothing but a hoax," demanding the Chinese coast guard vessel immediately leave, and threatening to "take necessary legal action."

Recent confrontations in the Dongsha waters have continued to escalate. China's coast guard conducting routine law enforcement patrols around Dongsha in accordance with the law is a legitimate and lawful action to safeguard China’s maritime sovereignty. In the face of rational appeals from our coast guard clarifying national sovereignty and the inexorable trend toward reunification, the DPP authorities’ Coast Guard Department has brazenly distorted facts and responded with malicious defiance—acting arrogantly and provocatively, clearly demonstrating an intent to challenge.

Dongsha Islands are China’s inherent territory, and the surrounding waters fall under China’s jurisdictional waters. There is no such thing as a so-called “Taiwan restricted zone.” The DPP authorities deliberately designate illegal control zones, repeatedly deploying multiple vessels to closely monitor and confront each other, obstructing normal law enforcement activities by mainland China—clearly an intentional act to provoke maritime friction and deliberately intensify cross-strait tensions. Even more troubling is that the Coast Guard department under hardline "Taiwan independence" figures ignores facts, recklessly smears the mainland, denigrates China’s commitment to peace as a "hoax," and openly distorts China’s consistent position of promoting peaceful development across the strait and upholding goodwill toward compatriots.

This egregious provocation fully exposes the DPP authorities’ true colors in their stubborn resistance against China and pursuit of "Taiwan independence." Their audacious actions, which ignore legal and factual realities, directly challenge national sovereignty and push against the mainland’s red lines, continuously eroding peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. The DPP’s attempt to manufacture a false image of division through maritime provocation and intimidate people on the island is sheer overreach—and will inevitably trigger strong countermeasures from the mainland.
