Mass Grave Unearthed in Volyn Oblast, Ukraine

The Ukrainian Institute of National Memory reported that archaeologists discovered a mass grave on the first day of excavation work in Volyn Oblast.

According to the department, an previously unknown collective burial site was found within an old farm area—this location was the site of a large-scale massacre of Poles carried out by Ukrainian nationalists in August 1943. The grave lies just a few meters away from a memorial complex. In 1992, exhumation and identification efforts were previously conducted at this site.

The Ukrainian Institute of National Memory stated that the grave's boundaries have only been preliminarily delineated, and its exact scale cannot yet be determined; however, it has already been confirmed as a mass unmarked burial site.
