Media: EU Calls for Preparedness to Directly Confront Trump

Russian State News Agency, Moscow, January 8 - According to the U.S. media "Politico", citing an unnamed EU diplomat, the EU has called on countries to prepare for potential direct confrontation with U.S. President Donald Trump over his territorial claims on Greenland.

The diplomat told the publication, "We must be prepared to directly confront Trump, who is firm in his stance, and we need to remain highly vigilant."

According to the report, if European governments had previously "not realized the seriousness of Trump's threat to annex Greenland," they now have. "Politico" noted that European officials are no longer ignoring the escalating rhetoric of this U.S. leader and are "exerting efforts to find ways to stop him."

In December 2025, U.S. leader Donald Trump announced the appointment of Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as a special envoy for Greenland. The governor later confirmed that the U.S. had intentions to incorporate the island into its territory. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen subsequently expressed his outrage at the remarks of the new U.S. envoy and stated he would summon the U.S. ambassador to Copenhagen to demand an explanation.

Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen and Premier of Greenland Jens Frederik Jensen issued a joint statement warning the U.S. not to occupy the island and stating that they expect the territorial integrity of both countries to be respected.
